At Humanity Home & Cabinetry, we value the importance of all spaces at your home – even the ones without walls!

Outdoor living space at home has quickly risen on many Americans’ wish lists. In fact, according to a recent report by the International Casual Furnishings Association, 9 in 10 Americans value their outdoor living spaces more than ever before.

At this point people often ask us, “how does interior design help with the outdoors?” Our answer is simple: an excellent interior designer knows how to work outside too!

The Numbers

According to the ICFA report, 58% of Americans surveyed intend to buy new outdoor furniture or other accessories throughout 2021. The report found that the seven most common planned purchases are as follows: firepit, grill, lounge/chaise, lighting, dining table/chairs, umbrella, and sofa/sectional. With so many different furniture pieces and accessories, there are so many ways for an outdoor remodel to go wrong!

Before you waste time, energy, and money on the dizzying array of furniture choices that may not last or function well together, consult with a professional interior designer! Only a practiced designer can provide you with the intent and skillset necessary to make a space both functional and enjoyable for years to come.

Intent

According to the ICFA report, people want backyard renovations in order to spend more time relaxing, grilling, gardening, playing with pets or kids, exercising, dining, and entertaining outside. With so many competing needs, how is a homeowner supposed to know where to start?

The power of intention can be used to design far more than kitchens, bathrooms, or bedrooms. There are a wide variety of outdoor upgrades one can make, and that is where an interior designer comes in!

The professionalism, vision, and intention needed to design a beautiful and functional outdoor space is immense, and an excellent interior designer will know exactly what questions to ask to begin the planning process.

Have you thought about the exterior paint color of your home? Do you have children, and does the backyard firepit need to be secured? Will the grill be close enough to the door leading to the kitchen? If you are expanding outdoor seating space, do yard sprinklers need to be moved so that guests do not get wet? There are so many questions to consider, and there is no substitute for years of experience in the field when designing a home.

Skillset

Even with the best interior design team in place and the most accurate plans, there is still a lot than can go wrong with installation! Remodels inevitably open up old spaces with unforeseen issues to work though. Luckily, the team at Humanity Home & Cabinetry has you covered.

Not only are we familiar with the inner workings of designing spaces for exercising, grilling, and gardening in your backyard, but we also have connections with the best contractors to complete the project across Northern California!

As Sonoma County’s premier design showroom, we have working relationships with renowned general contractors, electricians, HVAC technicians, masons, landscape professionals, and more. You will be hard pressed to find a design you love that we cannot field a team to build precisely and efficiently.
